Animation Club Visit

Me and my classmates observed Brave. I notice many wonderful things pertaining to the plot, cinematography , and animation in the animated motion film. The plot is alluring from start to finish, and the character were well crafted. Every character simulated unique characteristic. I can recall a scene when the red haired girl mom turned into a bear, and had to deal with eating and preparing food as a bear. It was a tough experience for her but the daughter and mom developed ways to combat it together. The scenes were they bonded together relates to most of us in our lives of bonding with someone we love. The mid shots and closeups also give reference to the characters emotions, and personalities of characters. It also give context to the environments, suspense, and dramatic situations in the movie. I also enjoyed the dramatic movements of the characters, especially the stretch and bend techniques and the swift movements that express anticipation and excitement. Like in the scene when Marideth and her mom (bear) where escaping out of the castle; they were rapidly moving out of anxiety while rushing and sneaking out of the castle. They were afraid of being caught and when they were caught or someone have seen them they rushed out of the castle swiftly.

Impact Animation

In this project I explore various ways to push effects and impact. I experimented with visual effects that exemplify the natural elements of our reality.

In this project I experimented with momentum, movements, weight and reactions when lifting heavy objects. This is the second edited version of this animation.

Character Design

I used various geometric shapes and concepts from the Futurism style to assist in the design of the characters. I used three silhouettes out of 24 to create intuitive designs of these characters. Each character represent a persona, and characteristic of myself.

Tiny Toons Video game on Nintendo

This is Nostalgic moment in my life when I was a kid. I remember playing this game and having to undergo many trials especially running away from Elmrya.

Tiny Toon Adventures

Tiny Toon Adventures is yet another animation that I also critiqued and observed. This cartoon reference to the Loony Toons franchise and its own twist of humor. Meta humor is mostly use in this series, which is basically a joke discussing another joke. Such as "A man cross over a bridge" and someone else asks "Why would a man place a cross over a bridge." I also notice that this cartoon also reference to a lot of celebrities and other characters from other cartoons like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." I also adore how they establish their foreground with their background designs. They have a clear understanding of showing distances from foreground, mid, and background. The colors are vibrant but not saturated. The style of art exemplified within the episodes is Surrealism and Dadaism. The "Babs Bunny in Wackyland" is a prime example of surrealism because the animators draw things that resemble objects in reality but in a bizarre way like Salvador Dali Painting "The Persistence of Memory."

Viper's Creed Animation

I observed this anime because I enjoy not only the art style but the plot of the story. Every main character had an important function and role in the series. Basically there are these members that are appointed the responsibilities of protecting the citizens in a broken government from terrorist threats. The setting is of a historical Cyberpunk environment which consist of high tech mechas in a low quality environment. The government is full of deceit and disarray. The mechas are design with various line weights but are not congested with to much detail like many other mecha/robot animation. All parts of the machines are important balance with detail and clarity. The environments are mostly simple with an emphasis of perspectives and angles of the camera. When they arent in buildings, the animators draw settings of mostly interstate bridges and outskirts of buildings.

Viper's Creed

The producers and animators focus on character designs to identify every characters uniqueness. I could easily identify every character with ease because each character was drown with different sizes, proportions, and signature clothing, and items. The illusion of space and nature is also another thing I like about this series animation. The sky and clouds are depicted in space and spherical form well. The cumulus clouds are drawn to show a sense of reality of the characters in a fictitious world. The sky assists in the life of the characters. The way the animators illustrating speed, and swiftness. This type of design reminds me of the art style Futurism. "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space" by Umberto Boccioni also shows movement in time. In Viper's Creed swift motions are achieve using blur effects, and flashy rapid camera shifts to promote quick movements/actions.

Subject Hierarchy 2

In this project I used squares to identity the visual Hierarchy the shades of color in the picture. The red box is what is noticed first. The face is notice second. The other boxes are lighter and represent third importance in hierarchy.

I use the blocks to identify the darks from the lights and the visual hierarchy of the design. The purple blocks represent the mid colors and exemplify the most important piece in the design. It shows what your eye notices first. Magenta box is first, dark purple box is second, purple box is third, rand so on.

Book of Art Layout

In class I started to explore Indesign more and discovering ways to display my work in a constructive form. I discovered my ways to creating a portfolio booklet of all work. My layout consist of text that is central alignment and place in relations to the image I am discussing on that page. I achieved a symmetrical balance of the words and the image.

Typography Design

This was a class assignment about text and the arrangement of text in a layout. In each design I align each line of text to one another. In the last layout I aligned the sub title to the vertical line text and my name. Each line forms a square. which forms a connection. The text passage is also aligned with the rest of the text. I change the tracking of the text "Centaur Lord of the Grass." I also decrease the tracking of the "designed by Jabriel E Woodall" text.

Centaur Design

In this project I wanted to draw a centuar with wings. I design a centuar because I adore fantasy worlds. I used an image of a centuar and angel wings as referenced for this design. I used the pen tool mostly to draw the shades, clouds, wings and body of the centuar. I applied many shades of browns, yellows and blacks on most of the objects to show a light source in the design. I wanted to show amount of light shining in relations to the location of the centuar.

Daily Task Infographics

These images in this pic are info graphs of my Daily life. They are three versions I design that convey my daily tasks in in different ways. I wanted to incorporate the percentages of time used for the activities I do in each design. In the first design I sized each block that corresponds to each particular task. The second image pushes the 3d aspect of the visual images. I also placed a border around each visual image. In the third image, I emphasize the bar by making it 3d. I also used strong saturated reds to guide the eye of my audience. I wanted to add a more connection of the bar and the discs in this image; I want it to be as one like puzzle pieces.

This is clear and concise. It compares to athletes to each other. I like the color scheme used in this layout. The purple is Kobe and Red is Michael. My eye draws to the top of the page first and then I read left to right.

What caught my eye in this image was the red color circles. Everything works nicely and works in harmony . The title with the elements supporting the title works well together. The whole design is simple and to the point, which is stagnant. The flow is easy to comprehended.

What made me pick this infographic image is the clarity of the information. The title is clear and the images compliment the purpose. I see everything in a single circular form. Each message for each of the transportations is align clearly with the pic of the vehicle. What drew my eye in first was the multicolored pie chart.

My New College Comic Book

I created this comic book to narrate my experience first entering MCA and attending my first classes. I sketched out my characters and scanned them into photoshop. Then I traced and colored my characters in indivually. I design the buildings, backgrounds, dialogue bubbles and the comic frame in Illustrator. My color theme consist of mostly reds, earth tone greens, purples and blues. I wanted to express my inital expectations of the expreience at MCA and realization of actually attending weeks after.

Typography Design Third Draft

In this design I utilize mostly text derived from a song I liked and create a design that communicates the idea/concept of this song. This time I altered the gradients in the clouds to make them look less obvious of being gradients. I applied another gradient to the background; I choose yellow to be at the bottom to direct the eye from bottom to top. I also made the type of the bird text a bit bold.

Typography Design Second Draft

In this design I utilize mostly text derived from a song I liked and create a design that communicates the idea/concept of this song. I added a drop shadow to the brain, and cloud text to add 3 dimension to them. The 3d text "Free Your Mind" seem to be out of place so I decided to appy depth to the brain and clouds. I place a duplicate of "Free Your Mind" text over itself. I was advised that the text was overpowering so I turned it to a cool color with a yellow highlight in attempt to guide the audience eye from bottom to top. I left it shadow to add depth and space.

In this design I utilize mostly text derived from a song I liked and create a design that communicates the idea/concept of this song. The color scheme I used in this design are blues and yellows. These colors are often associated to the sky. I used the pen tool to draw paths for the outline of the brain, cerebellum and birds in sky to create paths for the text to follow. For the insides and stroke of the entire brain, I traced a brain pic for reference. I also placed text within the traced shapes of the brain and cerebellum.

Extra Exercise Project

This is a design I created using mostly the pen tool in photoshop. I also used gradients in my design. My color scheme consist of mostly cool colors with a dash of hot color.

Zapfino

This is a typeface I am currently interested in. I like the elegance of the typeface and the serifs of some the letters. I also enjoy the fluidity and flow of the letters. Zapfino typeface can be used in certificates, wedding, formal events and special occasions. Zapfino is a calligraphic typeface designed for Linotype by typeface designer Hermann Zapf in 1998. It is based on an alphabet Zapf originally penned in 1944. As a font, it makes extensive use of ligatures and character variations (for example, the lower case letter d has nine variations). In 1983, Zapf had completed the typeface AMS Euler with Donald Knuth and David Siegel of Stanford University for the American Mathematical Society, a typeface for mathematical composition including fraktur and Greek letters. David Siegel had recently finished his studies at Stanford and was interested in entering the field of typography. He told Zapf his idea of making a typeface with a large number of glyph variations; he wanted to start with an example of Zapf's calligraphy that was reproduced in a publication by the Society of Typographical Arts in Chicago. Zapf was concerned that this was the wrong way to go, and while he was interested in creating a complicated program, he was worried about starting something new. However, Zapf remembered a page of calligraphy from his sketchbook from 1944, and considered the possibility of making a typeface from it. He had previously tried to create a calligraphic typeface for Stempel in 1948, but hot metal composition was too limiting on the freedom of swash characters. Such a result could only be achieved using modern digital technology, and so Zapf and Siegel began work on the complicated software necessary. Siegel also hired Gino Lee, a programmer from Boston, Massachusetts, to help work on the project. However, just before the project was completed, Siegel wrote a letter to Zapf, saying that his girlfriend had left him and that he had lost all interest in anything. Siegel abandoned the project and started a new life, working on bringing color to Macintosh computers and later becoming an Internet design expert. Zapfino's development had become seriously delayed, until Zapf presented the project to Linotype. They were prepared to complete it and reorganized the project. Zapf worked with Linotype to create four alphabets and various ornaments, flourishes, and other dingbats. Zapfino was released in 1998 as a Type 1 font.

Gestalt Design

In this design I want to exemplify the impact of technology and people influences on the human mind and heart. I use a mixture of reds with grayscale for the color scheme. With the eyes, I wanted to direct the audience from top to bottom and the rays continue to the end of the page. This utilizes the gestalt continuation theory. The eyes also stands for everyone and/or supreme being witnessing these influences every second in time. I use the knives and arrows to show that something is attacking or directing influence to the heart and mind. I use the figure and ground Gestalt Theory to highlight the arrows/knives and promote direction in this piece. The hands and the human figures constitutes mankind and the media equipment represents technology. The gradient in the heart represents the blood and the inner light of mankind being drained. From light gray to a more saturated red, this shows how influences impact you emotionally and spiritually. I have also used the knives and arrows to express the idea of human and technology influences attacking the brain which induces mental turmoil.

Artist using Gestalt/Closure, Figure/Ground, Continuation

The Artist name is Sarah Frances Gaines. She uses Figure/Ground technique to imply a woman's face. You can see the curves of the face and eye that is typically a sign of a female. The peach color of the background is like the ground of this image. The stem that forms a face shows continuous principle because of the leaf forming in another direction. Although you only see parts of her face the closure of the figure fills itself. Your mind puts the images together and put them together that it forms a face. The flower lip and nose help gives you clues of what the image is replicating.

Environmental Collage

In this scene I exemplify what I would see myself doing in 2-6 years from now. I would be the owner or executive of my graphics company. It would be a firm of gifted individuals who help my business flourish. My company will also be known for doing most types of design and animations. From illustration and web designing, my staff is equipped to dealing with any job. I used my sketches in this image to show originality; I used the terrorist image to reference my belief of my social and political standings. I also included the bird in the sky magazine page to show how I feel about freedom and sense of tranquility. My work environment will be fun, stress free as much as possible, and laid back. The color scheme I picked for this image mostly consist of light colors.

Self Portrait

This is a self portrait of me. I used the gradients in the blocks of the background to form direction and variety. The the top left and right blocks points towards the foreground of this piece. The top right blocks points towards my eye. The three images of me represents my different personas. The two silhouettes gives the audience a more clear view of me but at the same time adds mystery. The front most image is like a collage of all the emotions and flaws I have which are combined together to create me. I use a variety of blocks and textures to exemplify this idea. The overall image uses one focal point located in the mid of the page. Everything seems to come towards the mid point.
